Why I Switched to Kind Cup: A Healthier and Sustainable Period

You may have heard the scary news circling about a recent study conducted by Berkeley Public Health revealing some concerning information about the presence of toxic metals in tampons, including arsenic and lead.

“Tampons are of particular concern as a potential source of exposure to chemicals, including metals, because the skin of the vagina has a higher potential for chemical absorption than skin elsewhere on the body. In addition, the products are used by a large percentage of the population on a monthly basis—50–80% of those who menstruate use tampons—for several hours at a time.”

Why I switched to a menstrual cup

I wish I could be surprised…but unfortunately, i’m not. Over a year ago, I made a shocking discovery that my tampons were leaving cotton residue inside of me for WEEKS after being on my cycle and I quickly made the decision to finally try a menstrual cup. I not only feel cleaner and healthier but with my personal experience my cramps are also way better!

Recently, I discovered my new favorite menstrual cup, The Kind Cup. I was so excited to talk to Christine Brown, the designer and founder, to share my personal story and learn more about her journey. Kind Cup has received praise for its innovative design and transparent commitment to high-quality materials and social impact. Christine created a cup that complements the body's natural movements, prioritizing user experience, comfort, and sustainability. Their ethos, "kind to your body, the earth, and others," is reflected in their Kind Impact program, which donates to underserved communities.

Here are some reasons why you should make the switch to Kind Cup

For starters, it's one of the cleanest and safest options out there. Unlike tampons, which can be a breeding ground for bacteria and potentially harmful chemicals, Kind Cup is made from high-quality medical-grade silicone. This means it's free from harmful chemicals, dyes, and toxins. Plus, it’s designed with comfort and ease of use in mind.

Clean and Safe

Kind Cup’s medical-grade silicone is hypoallergenic and biocompatible, ensuring that it’s safe for long-term use inside your body. Knowing that I’m not exposing myself to potentially harmful substances every month brings immense peace of mind.

Easy to Use

One of the biggest misconceptions about menstrual cups is that they are difficult to use. However, my experience with Kind Cup has been quite the opposite. The design of Kind Cup is intuitive and user-friendly. It features a unique and ergonomic shape that makes insertion and removal easy, even for beginners. The cup forms a gentle seal with your vaginal walls, preventing leaks without causing discomfort.

Thoughtful Design

The design of Kind Cup truly stands out. It has a rounded base and a firm yet flexible rim, which allows for a comfortable fit and reliable protection. The smooth interior surface makes it easy to clean, and the slightly angled shape conforms to the natural contours of your body.

Sustainable Choice

Using a menstrual cup is an environmentally friendly choice. Tampons and pads generate a significant amount of waste, much of which ends up in landfills and oceans. By using Kind Cup, you’re contributing less to this waste and making a positive impact on the planet. Additionally, the need to continually buy tampons monthly is eliminated, saving money and reducing packaging waste over time.

A Positive Impact on My Period

Switching to Kind Cup has positively impacted my period in more ways than one. Not only do I feel more in control and less worried about leaks, but I also experience fewer cramps and less irritation. The cup can be worn for up to 12 hours, providing all-day protection without the need for frequent changes. This convenience is a huge plus, especially on busy days. In addition to the personal benefits, using a menstrual cup is an environmentally friendly choice.

Making the switch to a menstrual cup, and specifically to Kind Cup, has been one of the best decisions for my menstrual health and well-being. If you’ve been considering a switch or are concerned about the potential risks associated with traditional tampons, I highly recommend giving Kind Cup a try. It might just change your period for the better, as it did for me.
